Definition of admission

I’m a high school English teacher from Sydney, Australia. A fascination with New York, led me to apply for a professional learning scholarship with a colleague with the same love of the Big Apple. The “study” trip took us to New York, Massachusetts and finally Connecticut where I met some wonderful academics who encouraged me to return to complete some graduate study. Eighteen months later, having begged my school principal for time off work, I find myself returning to the US of A to study for one (maybe two) years.

This blog is about what it is like to study in America. Is it just like the movies?  Will I have to join a sorority? Actually, what is a sorority? Do keg parties happen every week? Where will I go for spring break? Am I expected to turn up and cheer at the big game? Will I actually have the nerve to tell anyone my (real) age?

I plan to explore the answers to these and other very important questions right here.

Any questions?
